29 October Passion & Celebration

Tuesday 29 October, 7.3o pm The Great Hall, Kent College

Tickets £25, Students £12 (Incl. £1.50 booking fee)

Conductor – Stephen Barlow

Soprano – Kathryn Jenkin

Passion and Celebration presents a programme of music that invites the listener on an exciting, emotional and spiritual journey through a series of much-loved operatic and classical works.

Schubert’s 5th Symphony, composed aged 19, is bursting with uplifting melodies and is full of youthful exuberance. Mozart’s 29th Symphony is one of his better-known early symphonies and is very personal in tone, creating an intimate chamber style whilst still fiery and impulsive.

With the addition of the stunning soprano voice of Kathryn Jenkin, who will be singing wonderful sacred solos by Vivaldi and J.S. Bach, together with famous Arias from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, the programme comprises a delightful mix of pieces and styles, with varying emotive elements producing a true sense of Passion and Celebration.

Anyone who has visited Alderney will appreciate that it is a very special Island evoking a great sense of peace, tranquility and sense of community. During my first visit I was very surprised by the Silence, the illumination of the Stars plus the great community spirit.

Our programme this evening will endeavour to capture the above through a musical tapestry. ‘Alderney Song’ will definately be performed along with other emotive pieces.

Will be a special occasion.
