30 May A Musical Tapestry with David Rees Williams – Piano  & Iain Ballamy – Tenor Sax

David Rees Williams – Piano
Iain Ballamy – Tenor Saxophone
Ian Crowther – Oboe

David Rees Williams is renowned for his unique reinterpretations of classical composers such as JS Bach, H. Purcell and G. F. Handel amongst many others. Tonight’s Concert will feature a reworking of some classical works together with some Jazz inspired pieces, so you may hear Bach, Corelli and Purcell fused to Michel LeGrand.
Iain Ballamy’s saxophone playing is absolutely stunning, his sound akin to that of the great Stan Getz. Iain is equally at home with intricate jazz improvisation or playing a slow ballad and brings to both his beautifully crafted solos. Iain and David have performed together on a number of occasions, most recently in the Crypt of Canterbury Cathedral during the 2019 Canterbury Festival and their collaborations are always musically highly memorable.
Ian Crowther on Oboe brings another tone colour to the mix and the Concert will take the listener on a journey of differing musical styles, textures and colours, in essence creating a Musical Tapestry.
